2020 Tours

Need photos (everyone does)? Want to have fun while getting them (who doesn’t)? Exciting news!

I'm thinking 2020 and tours...

I'm ready to get my tunes (or Podcasts) plugged in and hit the road (and air). I'm always so excited to do these trips. I love meeting new people, helping businesses with great photographs and spending time in our beautiful country.

CONFIRMED TOURS (dates to be set):

Queensland

South Australia

Western Australia

*Let me know if you want me to come to you - even if it’s outside of these areas.

Of course, I'll be offering a full range of photography, including my popular $450 Editorial Package. You can check them out here. For a tailored photography package call or email me. We can work out something that suits you perfectly.

A big difference in 2020, though.... I also want to collaborate with regions - and even more powerful way of creating images that can be used to inspire people to travel, learn and discover while having fun. When I collaborate with regions, everyone works together and gets access to the photos - it creates more cohesive visuals, a lot more access and images being shown in multiple places in many ways. And you know what happens when a person keeps seeing the same place and amazing things they can do there? It gets on their radar!

We had great fun and success in 2019 doing precisely this in Flinders Ranges and Outback, Coober Pedy, Innamincka and Birdsville.

Here is a little of the fun we had…

"ONE PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS."

"PUT YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD."

Sayings that have been around for years and are still critical to your success.

Part of the foundation of a great marketing plan is incredible, professional photographs. Without them, your online (well, any marketing) presence fails. And let's face it, the world is going online. Customers and guests first impression of you is very likely to be online. Make it a good one. Create a connection. Show them how great you are.

Get in touch if you are interested in having fun while creating a collection of photographs that tell your story in a real and beautiful way. Tell me 'where to go'.

Vinales, Cuba. Where the tobacco grows.

Vinales. A place of tobacco. The farmland of Cuba. A day trip here…

Vinales is a town in western Cuba. Around two hours drive from Havana.

We get up early one morning to head out there for the day. Having been out dancing the night before, it's hard to keep my eyes open. I normally love to watch the scenery change and see where I am. But today my eyes keep shutting. When I do pull them apart, I'm spoilt and will myself to stay awake a bit longer. Havana and its residential sprawl is gradually replaced with farmland, farmers riding on their ploughs and tobacco drying houses bigger than their houses.

The houses are cute. Colourfully painted, simple and small, nearly always with porch and rocking chair. The drying houses are big and wooden. With all the tobacco lined up neatly inside.

As we travel further, limestone monoliths 'mogotes' erupt out of the greenery. We visit Vinales Mural de la Prehistoria that has been painted over many years by an artist, Leovigildo Gonzalez Morillo. Although the mural itself is often labelled as overhyped, the lush Vinales Valley was given status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999 and is very worthy of a visit.

Also, It is here I have my first 'top up to your liking' pina colada. Mmm, I'll just say 'happy mornings, la la la...' Another reason to go and visit the mural.

Of course, being in Vinales, a visit to a tobacco farm to see inside one of the drying houses is required. We not only see inside, smelling all the tobacco at various drying stages, but the farmer also shows us how he makes the cigars. We then we get to try. I don't smoke so have no idea what to do, but I give a little puff without inhaling. I realise the taste isn't as bad as I thought - much better than the smell of cigarette and I don't cough. Much.

There is a lot to do in Vinales but we are only here for a day. We visit a lookout to see the unusual landscape of green and monoliths popping up, the tobacco farm, caves and of course drink rum. I'd love to stay a bit longer but a concert is calling us. We grab another snooze opportunity while driving back to Havana and before we know it, are hit with the intoxicating smell of fumes from cars and buses spluttering everything out as the clatter along the streets. Bless Havana and her cars.

Touring with Barossa Unique Tours

Touring the Barossa on trike and Mustang… in the rain. Loved it!

I recently attended Australian Tourism Exchange which was held in Adelaide.

On a wet Sunday, a bunch of us went out touring... and may I say, even in the rain, it was still fun.

Barossa Unique Tours did a wonderful job of entertaining, wining and dining us. They took us driving (and riding) through the rain, sipping wine at Artisans of Barossa, eating seriously good grub at Fermentasian and wine tasting at Whistler and Kalleske

Here is a little video I did along with some photos... I'll let them tell the story.

CLIENT SHOWCASE: King River Rafting

Kayaking on the Franklin River with King River Rafting - and the promo pics.

I hadn't thought of taking the kids kayaking before. I love adventures but presumed they would get bored after, hmm, 10 minutes.

They proved me wrong. This time I was happy to be wrong. And that doesn't happen often. :)

We were in Queenstown with King River Rafting. Paul normally takes people out white water rafting, but for kids aged five and seven, as you know, rafting is not really that appropriate. So he suggested a kayak up the Franklin River. He also liked the idea of getting some kids pics to promote that area of his biz.

Leaving Strahan early, I'd forgotten to pack spare clothes so was hoping we wouldn't get too wet. Oh well, I thought to myself, it's just kayaking (and worse case scenario, we can blast the heaters in the car when we get back). When Paul brought out wetsuits, booties and thermal layers for all of us I realised I had completely underestimated the experience and how cold we could get. Oops.

The kids looked ridiculously cute in the smallest adult gear we could find. Wetsuit legs rolled up like big cream puffs. Booties that flopped about like flippers. They stomped about with giggles.

The next clue to our adventure not being as leisurely as I thought hit me when we arrived at the river. I hauled a kayak over my head and plodded for ten minutes down the forest path to the river. Of course Paul asked if I was ok, but of course I answered, 'yep, no problems'. The kids had to carry a paddle each while I stepped one foot in front of the other, blinded by the kayak, hoping I wouldn't fall in the leech-infested ferns.

While Paul climbed in his and slid down the rock face to the water, I was a little more cautious. I shouldn't have worried, the blow-up kayaks are very stable and can handle just about anything, as I was soon to discover. Ashton jumped in and was paddling before I could push off the rocks.

We paddled for about five minutes. I'm sure I looked ridiculous... learning how to paddle straight using the paddle out one side only (not switching sides). The kayak nosing left then right up river, Paul had to come back and check in on me a few times. It was definitely a slow start.

Then we hit a rapid - with no water. Slimy rocks and branches lay strewn across the river. Hmm. Paul was all over it. He hopped out, hitched his canoe above his head and ran over the rocks to the next section of the river. Then he returned and did the same with our kayaks.

Meanwhile, I was desperate to find a non-slippery rock or branch to step on, and make sure the kids do the same (I don't think I found one). They loved it. I worried about them falling. Nothing unusual. But after doing this about five times up river, I was getting used to it. Then we had to do it all again on the way back. Workout? You bet. Fun? Definitely. Scenic? Given. It's truly stunning.

And... did the kids enjoy it? Absolutely. We took a risk, but because it was just us and Paul, and knew we could turn back at any time. But the kids just kept on going. They loved to 'help' paddle, lay down and watch the water float by, and grab hold of Paul's canoe to get a pull.

Their favourite bit? Clambering all over the wet rocks. Ashton also loved skimming rocks over the river surface - well, trying to.

My favourite part? Getting the hang of keeping the kayak straight while moving forward, using only one paddle. Winning!

Here are the pics I took...

NOTE: Definitely make sure you have a wet bag or housing for your camera - it will get wet.
