Check it out at heidiwho.com/buy!!!

The last month or so has seen me sitting at my computer, searching my archives for images and uploading them to this fabulous new site. The process is tedious - search, retouch, keyword, upload, add pricing, add to galleries. But it's a chore that is making me happy. I know how much benefit you are going to get from it. Especially at this time when it's crucial to keep telling your story. Travellers will be very ready to get out and explore as soon as they can, so keep yourself in their mind when they are making plans.

5 tips for building your photo library

"A picture tells a thousand words." We have heard the saying... how many times?

How do your photos tell your story?

Here are some tips to get your photo library working best for you.

Special family times...

Special family times...

Your photo library is the visual foundation on which any marketing strategy is built. Photographs show the appeal – and the competitiveness – of a company or destination.

Research says you have 8 seconds to catch the eye of a Gen Z. And for print... the decision to read or reject pamphlets and direct mail pieces is made by readers in just 2.5 seconds.

Considering thousands of dollars are being spent taking those images into the marketplace - think websites, promotional collateral, travel shows, social media... it makes sense to do it properly from the start. Good photographs are the foundations of your marketing.

Here are a couple of suggestions to make sure your foundations are sturdy.

1. Don't rush it. Plan to build your library over several assignments. You are unlikely to get all the images you need in a single assignment. Consider different light, times of year, emotions, feelings, events... Develop a shot list with your photographer, taking into consideration seasons, major events, travel time and accessibility. Then prioritise. Work out what you can do straight away and what you have to wait for.

2. Recognise the difference between “Stock Shots” (the necessary pictures that show the range of attractions you have to offer) and “Hero Shots” (the flagship photographs that are likely to lead your promotional effort). Like a magazine with their hero cover shot and then the additional feature shots inside the article. Plan to it.

3. Build your library on professional standards from the start. For example... ensure all images are licensed to you and your stakeholders to use for promotional purposes, you have Talent Releases for all people in the photographs, and the images are of a professional standard (i.e., size, colour space, etc.).

4. Work out the most effective way of keeping and distributing your library of images. This will save you hours searching for images in your next campaign. And save you from losing any. Your photographer can also offer advice on how they do it/what they recommend.

5. Make sure your images (hero and stock) sit firmly within your marketing brand. Images that define you and make you unique.

Well, not really. But I am going with the fam to Tasmania in March/April. And I'm pumped. One whole month!

My schedule -

Stock photography on spec

NO COMMITMENT BY YOU - I WANT STOCK PHOTOS

If you would like general images, please email me with any requests. Of course, there is no guarantee that I will be able to achieve these images, but at least I can try. :) These images will then be uploaded to my stock photography where you can purchase at really reasonable prices. Check out the 'stock photography' page at www.heidiwho.com for examples of what I've already done for people.

An example:
Goyder Council, SA
- developed a shot list and organised talent
- I organised photo shoot time
- photographed area solo and with client/talent
- the client chose images to purchase after viewing proofs

Editorial Photography Package valued at $400 (plus GST)

With this package, you receive a one-hour photo shoot and up to 20 images in print and web size via Dropbox.

The images will be retouched to an editorial standard, which means I will colour correct, ensure they are tonally beautiful and look amazing, but I won't alter the reality of the image in any way. Ie. By removing objects, blending exposures (which helps with maintaining exposure through interiors to exteriors through windows, etc.).

Check out some examples at www.heidiwhotravels.com - particularly Port Lincoln Hotel and Whyalla Caravan Park.

Destination photos 'on spec'

Theres more than one way to help clients... getting awesome photos with minimal fuss. Results? Pretty fantastic for everyone.

On a recent photo tour, I did photos for Goyder Council 'on spec'. We developed a shot list, the client organised talent, then we photographed. Nothing fancy - all natural light and realistic. It's the way photos should be when trying to sell a destination.

I really enjoyed the shoot, which was over two days - six hours on the first day and one hour on the second. I got to wander around, exploring different areas, popping my head into shops, taking photos of all the great things I saw. I loved the fact that people knew what I was doing so I didn't have to explain all the time or feel weird that people would be looking at me going 'what is she doing?'

This kind of shoot benefits everyone involved - I get some awesome stock photography, my client gets beautiful photos with minimal effort and the people we photograph get the opportunity to have some professional photos too.

If you are interested in having your business/area photographed, email me. I am always going places and will let you know when I'm next in your area - or we can organise a tour around your dates!
